1992 – Resolution: Homosexuality, AIDS, and the HIV Virus

WHEREAS more than 80% of the Autoimmune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS, formerly known as GRIDS) and Human Immunodeficiency Viruses (HlV) are transmitted by homosexuals and intravenous drug users, and

WHEREAS AIDS and HIV are pandemic infectious diseases around the world, threatening everyone, and

WHEREAS hazardous lifestyles and falsely named “safe sex” practices are being promoted by the government, media, in public school classrooms, and by homosexual organizations, and

WHEREAS governments, and the U.S. Center for Disease Control have failed to take appropriate or sufficient measures to protect the general population from infected people, having treated AIDS and HIV as politically privileged contagious diseases, and

WHEREAS there is much misinformation being disseminated about these diseases, even though not all of the modes of transmitting these diseases are completely known, and in spite of clear cases of fatal transmission which remain unexplained, and

WHEREAS the Word of God clearly condemns all sexual intimacy, apart from marriage,

NOW THEREFORE the members of the Independent Baptist Fellowship of North America gathered at their Second Annual Conference in Lenexa, Kansas, June 15-17, 1992, do hereby resolve to condemn all extra-marital sexual conduct, including: homosexuality, sodomy, bisexuality, adultery, and fornication as immoral, dangerous lifestyles which propagate AIDS and HIV diseases, and

BE IT FUR THER RESOLVED that we uphold the Word of God which teaches monogamous relationships and abstinence from sexual conduct before marriage, and that we seek affirmation of these doctrines by all government and medical authorities, and in all public schools as the only certain means of preventing sexual transmission of these diseases, and

BE IT FUR THER RESOLVED that we commend faith in Jesus Christ as personal Savior as the only way to truly change the hearts and lives of homosexuals, drug users, and promiscuous people, whose lives are at risk because of these diseases. While God can forgive their sinful conduct, salvation does not take away their disease, and they must exercise all care not to jeopardize others by their activity.
