1998 – A Resolution Commending the Help of God to Men

WHEREAS, man is insufficient unto himself for a God-honoring, satisfying life and requires help from other sources, and

WHEREAS, man cannot find all the help he needs from other men who are equally fallen in the sight of God and corrupt by their very nature, and

WHEREAS, men and societies fail when they rely completely upon their own selves, fellow men, leaders in government or a presumption of an intrinsic good in society, without any regard for God, His Son Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit or the written Word of God, and

WHEREAS, man has no hope apart from the supernatural intervention of God in his life,

BE IT NOW THEREFORE RESOLVED, that we the members of the ‘Independent Baptist Fellowship of North America, now convened in Plymouth, Massachusetts, June 16-18, 1998, do hereby confess our reliance upon the one true and eternal God to be “our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1) upon Whom we unashamedly depend for all our needs of life and accomplishments of the ministry of the Gospel of Christ.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that we clearly proclaim our reliance upon Him, lest we in weakness and pride would grasp the glory that is His alone, knowing that this reliance upon Him will also keep us from compromises that betray a greater confidence in the flesh and a desire to please men more than God.

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that we seek to be nothing more than honorable, clean and useful vessels in His hand who, having experienced His faithful assistance in the past, remain confident of future victories yet to be wrought in His Name until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.
